Modular trench technology for heating and cooling with primary air supply

The optimised Katherm HK P in the 310/160 size is based on a modular system and is particularly suitable for projects where both heating and cooling performance as well as controlled ventilation are required. It features primary air connections with air spigots or for air intake via the raised floor. The tangential fans operate quietly and energy-efficiently and ensure optimum air distribution.

Primary air supply

Katherm HK P efficiently combines heating, cooling and fresh air supply via permanently integrated primary air connection nozzles in one system. Conditioned primary air is directed into the room as required through air outlet openings on the window side. The channel design enables precise and individual regulation of the air volume by means of sliders.

Heating and cooling

The new trench technology Katherm HK P with an installation height of 160 mm, a width of 310 mm and a primary air connection achieves higher performance thanks to optimised components. It ensures efficient heating and cooling as well as controlled ventilation with minimal noise emissions, regardless of the system temperature – even in low-temperature operation and heat pump applications. Its versatility enables use in a wide range of building types, especially those with a high cooling demand due to internal heat loads or solar radiation through large glazed facades.

Modular parametric design

The innovative modular concept of the Katherm HK P is divided into three core elements: connection module, power module and extension module. The parametric design of the power module, adjustable in 100-mm intervals, offers around 12,000 configuration options. This guarantees precise adaptation to the respective facade conditions with maximum performance efficiency.

252 variants

As a new variant in a parametric design, the Katherm HK P is initially available in one fixed width and height. Depending on the requirements on site, various product-specific lengths are available in flexible increments to cover all performance requirements in both two-pipe and four-pipe systems.

Connection module

The connection module contains the electrical connection and control box, the continuously variable EC fan motor, the water-side heat exchanger connection and the waste-water-side condensate connection with an optionally selectable condensate pump . Valve kits for 2- or 4-pipe systems are available on request. All electrical components are pre-installed in the central connection box. This module combines all connections to the electrical, heating and waste-water trades on one connection side, enabling efficient, time-saving installation.

Power module

With the power module in the Katherm HK P, we achieve higher heat exchanger output. A single powerful drive motor activates a series of tangential fans by means of an innovative coupling system. This cascading minimises performance losses and ensures uniform flow across the entire convector length. The use of fewer but more powerful motors reduces resource use, energy consumption and susceptibility to faults in projects. This makes the system an efficient and sustainable alternative to conventional multi-fan solutions.

Extension module

The newly designed Katherm HK P makes optimum use of the available floor space to achieve maximum performance with low noise. In 4-pipe systems, the extension module (right-hand channel area) is used for the additional valve connection for heating operation. In 2-pipe variants, the area is reduced to a minimum. Every millimetre is used efficiently and the channel is flexibly adapted to local conditions. This sophisticated design guarantees maximum use of space of the trench convector.

Heating and cooling-side connection

Our heat exchanger is equipped with an internal thread connection and an anti-torsion device, which also provides splash protection during venting. The valve range extends from adjustable on/off valve kits to pressure-independent valve kits for various flow rates, complete with corrugated hoses. All options can be factory-prepared so that on site only a press connection at the copper end piece of the corrugated hose is required .

Simple condensate management

Our system offers sophisticated condensate management with an integrated collection tray for reliable condensate drainage in cooling mode. Drainage takes place by natural gradient or by means of an optional pump, which can be installed on site or at the factory. The new pump design combines float and motor in one compact housing. A newly designed connection elbow for the tray is supplied, saving installation time and simplifying Maintenance. The extremely quiet pump continuously adapts its output. Pre-installed plug connections for power supply and fault indication also make Maintenance easier.

Lowest noise thanks to acoustic decoupling

Our system uses acoustically decoupled tangential fans, which are mounted using a special coupling and ball-stud mechanism to minimise operating noise. The fans can be removed without tools for Maintenance – straightforward and time-saving. This ensures a pleasantly quiet room atmosphere while also allowing effortless Maintenance.

Protection during installation and construction

Protecting your systems during delivery and installation is our highest priority. That is why we protect every channel from construction waste with environmentally friendly paper. For the initial phase of interior fit-out, an optional wooden cover is available ex works.

The grilles are delivered separately and securely packed by us to guarantee their integrity.

Control options

KaControl MC

The Katherm HK P, with the integrated KaControl MC control, offers bidirectional communication of up to 10 units within a group/room via CAN bus. With KaControl MC, the unit can be easily integrated into common building management systems such as Modbus RTU, Modbus TCP, BACnet/IP and KNX-TP

Electromechanical control

This variant is ideal for simple applications. All integrated actuators are factory-wired to a terminal and can be connected to our electromechanical accessories such as thermostats or external controllers.

Hygiene guideline VDI 6022

Our improved model in the 310/160 size with primary air connection complies with the VDI 6022 hygiene standard. Condensate pump, connection and tray are installed in the trench unit. The tangential fan can be removed effortlessly via plug connections, allowing the condensate tray to be pulled out for thorough cleaning. This sophisticated design guarantees hygienic and user-friendly operation.

Life cycle assessment data (EPDs)

We assess the environmental impact of our products across their entire life cycle („cradle to cradle“) and publish the results transparently in our Environmental Product Declarations (EPD). These EPDs can be easily integrated into leading building certification systems such as DGNB, BREEAM or LEED and are available in the download section.

ErP-compliant Ventilate

Separate ventilation and temperature control with a hybrid ventilation concept: The combination of central ventilation via an air handling unit and decentralised air conditioning with pumped hot water and chilled water enables efficient heating and cooling.
